BRUG

Belgian Ruby User Group

Welcome to the home of the Belgian Ruby User Group, or BRUG for short. “Brug” is the Dutch word for “bridge”, symbolizing the bridge we want to build between Belgium and Ruby.

In the summer of 2007, a few Belgian Ruby developers decided to put Ruby in the spotlight in their tiny country. Belgium is largely ignoring Ruby, and it was about time that we did something about this. And where better to start than by building a Belgian Ruby user base.cancer symptoms The idea of a Belgian Ruby user group was born.

On October 3 2007, this idea took shape in the form of the first Belgian Ruby User Group meeting. We had an unexpectedly large turn-out of over 25 Ruby enthusiasts. The first BRUG was very successful with lots of bonding and networking. Besides important discussion about the future of the BRUG, a presentation was given on domain specific languages in Ruby and our first attempt at recording talks like this can be found here . The slides of the talk can be found at our development page at Rubyforge.

The latest event organized by the BRUG was a Ruby and Rails devroom at FOSDEM. The Call For Papers can be found here. The program can be found here. That page also links to the presentations.

If you are interested in joining us, subscribe to the brug-talk mailing list to see what is going on in our Belgian Ruby community these days. The mailing list archives
shingles symptoms can be found here.

Here you can find a list of some of our members. Most of our members are Ruby on Rails users, but we have a few members who spend most of their time writing pure Ruby code. If or when you join us
swarovski beads, consider appending your name to the list.

Ruby

Ruby is a programming language conceived by Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto in 1993. Ruby is a fully object-oriented programming language that emphasizes efficiency of the programming experience rather than efficiency of execution. Ruby is built for the programmer’s enjoyment, and not the compiler’s. Ruby has a tendency to instill a love into Ruby programmers—or Rubyists as they like to call their selves—which is seldom experienced with other programming languages.

Ruby has a very active community that is hailed for its niceness. Witness of this is the acronym MINASWAN which stands for “Matz Is Nice And So We Are Nice”. The main communication channel between Ruby gurus and Ruby newbies (often referred to as nubies) is the ruby-talk mailing list. In 2000, comp.lang.ruby, the official Ruby newsgroup, was approved. Gateway software synchronizes this news group with the ruby-talk mailing list. A forum interface to ruby-talk is provided as well. For more information on Ruby related lists and how to subscribe, see http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/community/mailing-lists/.

Before the advent of the Pickaxe—as “Programming Ruby” is known to Rubyists—Ruby was largely unknown outside Japan. Nowadays, only deaf people and ostriches haven’t heard of Ruby, and a plethora of information is available on it:

“Programming Ruby”, or the Pickaxe. This is the Ruby bible; it’s the reference on Ruby. The second edition is available from the Pragmatic Programmers, both in a dead tree and PDF version. The first edition was made freely available on the web.

David Black’s “Ruby for Rails” teaches you Ruby, but from the perspective of someone who wants to use Rails. It’s available from Manning .

David Flanagan’s “The Ruby Programming Language” was cowritten by Matz himself and features illustrations by the one and only _why . It is the authoritative guide to Ruby, including Ruby 1.9.

Chris Pine’s “Learn to program” is a hallowed programming tutorial for the completely programming agnostic. It uses Ruby as a very gentle introduction to programming. More information here.

Hal Fulton’s The Ruby Way closely followed the Pickaxe in 2001 and is considered by many as a good introduction to Ruby.

A more recent effort in bringing you the basics of Ruby in book form is Mr. Neighborly’s Ingeniously Impertinent and Decorously Ephemeral Humble Ruby Book.

A must-read is Why’s (Poignant) Guide to Ruby. The Poignant Guide is simply genius!

From the same author, there’s Hackety Hack that aims to teach programming to our youngsters.

Try Ruby! gives you the opportunity to try out Ruby without the need for installing anything on your computer. Try Ruby! runs straight in your web browser.

For more information on Ruby and a complete list of Ruby related literature, see the comp.lang.ruby FAQ, though it has a tendency to get out of date.

About Me:
43 years old. With 6 kids to love and 7 previous steps in my career, I already built up some experience, yet more new ideas and places to explore loom on the horizon.

Contact
My contact info is:

E-mail: peter@vandenabeele.com

Taximize where I offer a Free software calculation of taxes for a “management vennootschap” (a small Inc. that is used by people managing other companies).

Everyone wants to write a research paper in a time of your life. If you do not know the steps to write a research article, so that it can be overwhelming proposal. But if you know the steps to write the research, so that job is not deterrent. Breaking research work on the small steps also allows you to focus on one part of the research paper at a time, as reflected in a much better final product.

Finding the Right Research Paper Partner

There are a lot of instances wherein your teachers assign a research paper and expect you to find a research partner. It might sound easy, right? You just have to tell your buddy that you guys are partners. This might seem like an easy task, but in reality, it is not, and your buddy over there is not the best research partner choice.

Research papers are not like essays wherein you can throw some words together and you’re done. These require patience and a lot of research—and if you choose the right research partner, you can be sure that the both of you can finish the task easily. You’ll be cutting the work time in half, whereas if you choose a random research partner, there is a probability that you’ll be doubling the work time because the both of you can’t seem to agree on most aspects of the research.

Writing papers require patience, but working with a partner is different from working on your own. In many ways, your choice of research partner can affect you work progress and overall results. If you choose a research partner randomly, there is a chance that your research may have some problems.

You need to choose someone who has the same goals that you have and knows the importance of creating a good research. If your buddy is someone like that, perhaps you can choose him, but if he is not able to take things seriously and would distract you from work, it would be better to choose someone else rather than risk it.
